Tuscany, Italy, Day three
Time to relax a bit. The trip so far has been a blur of dashing between airports, hotels and fantastic sights. It’s been great, and we’ve seen a whole lot in the short time we’ve had, but it has been exhausting. We had a bit of a sleep in and, after a small breakfast, moved around to laze by the pool. The water was cold, but nice, and the rolling Tuscan hills gave the perfect backdrop to sunbake by. We kept this up for a few hours, reading Twilight and writing postcards in the sun.
Eventually, it was time for lunch and we braved the walk down the hill to Greve in Chianti, the town where we were previously hopelessly lost. The town was considerably quieter without the parade and we had a nice lunch in the piazza (the meat-stuffed zucchini flowers were particularly nice!). After waiting for the supermarket to reopen to get some supplies (seems that siestaing is an Italian thing too), we slowly trudged up the hill again home.
After dinner later that night, we dropped into the unit of another couple who were staying at the same resort. We met by the pool earlier and it turned out that they were from Ashburton, small world and all that. Together, we enjoyed another couple of bottles of Chianti Classio and chatted about our respective travels so far.
Soon enough, we had to say goodnight. It was sad to realise that this was to be our last night in Tuscany, we just didn’t want to leave! Simon
