San Sebastian, Spain, Day two
We started the day with Spanish donuts (churros) and pastries. Think we should have booked two seats each for the way home at the rate we are going! The day was pretty wet and overcast (it appears that the plain is not just where the rain falls here, haw haw), so Katie decided that the morning could be well spent at the shops. She felt quite at home browsing through Zara and made a couple of purchases at some little shops in town; however, she was less than impressed by my suggestion that we had travelled for days to visit the Spanish Myer - apparently there’s some difference?
After exerting ourselves through retail, we dropped into Kantoi Cafe, a small cafe in the old town that served some thick, sweet hot chocolate with cream. Katie wasn’t exactly sure what she was ordering, but was rather pleased with the result!
We then visited the Basilica de Santa Maria again and went inside to have a look. Nice, but probably not the last big church we will see this trip…
Having not eaten for about twenty minutes, it was time for lunch by the beach. The exasperation of the waiter indicated that our Spanish was not improving at all, but the English-speaking waiter he returned with was very patient with us, haha. It was still overcast and drizzly, but it seemed nothing could dampen the spirit of the English tourists out paddling in the water.
The day was rounded out by a few drinks and tapas at a nearby bar. The selection of tapas was very impressive, and most bars in town are covered with different plates of food to choose from. We decided that we could go without dinner after all of our eating and headed back to the hotel. Tomorrow’s weather should be better, and we’ve also got the six hour bus ride to Madrid to look forward to! Simon
