Day 2
After a good sleep we headed out to yum cha (drink tea) and ate dim sum (small pieces of food). We ordered about 10 different plates to try and it came to a total of 5 Aussie dollars each- bargain! It was all really delicious! Simon particularly enjoyed his favourite, BBQ pork buns. Leigh and John headed to china for the day, while Lorraine, Simon and I hit the shops! We headed to Mong Kok where we walked through the ‘Flower Market’, which was blocks and blocks of fresh flowers for sale. We then walked through a ‘Bird Market.’ It was a bit sad seeing hundreds and hundreds of birds shoved into tiny cages together. Parts of it were set up nicely though with trees lining the path and birds in cages hanging from a branch for sale. Aparently old men buy a bird to keep them company and take them for a walk in their cage each day, as you would a dog! Later, we headed to the ‘Computer Mall’ or in other words, simon’s heaven. It was rooms and rooms of computer ‘stuff’ so Lorraine and I left Simon there and checked out the markets for an hour or so. Next stop, the Jade market where I bartered for a pearl necklace. It was way too hot and humid to stay out any longer so we headed back to the apartment and headed for the pool. What a stunning pool. It is huge and has lots of spa jets. The best part was the view of Hong Kong island from the pool- just gorgeous! We headed back into town and picked up Simon’s suit. Very nice! We then wandered around and got apprached by someone for a pedicure. I accepted and she took us up to the little room a few floors up. It was 20 Aussie dollars which was good value so she got started. She scraped and buffed my feet then claimed she was finished. No wonder it was cheap! She hadn’t even done my nails! I wanted them done to then pointed to my toenails and tried to explain what I wanted. She cut and filed then said finished again. I pointed to the nail polish and she was a bit weary but went ahead. I was expecting her to charge some rediculous price but she just charged the original 20 bucks as I ‘have a very pretty face’ ah well, won’t complain! Lorraine then met us at the ferry and we headed over to Hong Kong Island for dinner. We went to the area Lang kwa fong and had dinner at ‘Rat Alley’… sounds dodgy but had lots of nice open air Vietnamese and Thai restaurants. Went and had a cocktail at one of the bars then home to bed for us! Another busy day!
