Hong Kong
Day 1 Sooo hot! We arrived in Honkers at 6:55am after a good flight with Cathay Pacific. Simon, (lynelle’s fiancĂ©) asked him mum, who works at the airport if she could get us upgraded. No upgrade but free food & drinks in lounge before flight, good seats on plane and our luggage went business class so it came out early. It was a nice start to the trip. We probably had 2-3 hours sleep on the plane so were pretty stuffed, but excited, when we got off at Honkers. Flying in, I was amazed at all the hills around Hong Kong! We got a taxi from the airport so we could look around on our way to hung hom. Leigh and lorraine’s apartment has a nice view of hong kong island. It’s great watching all the boats go by. We headed off with leigh’s brother, John for a big bus tour of hong kong. Simon’s head was looking red within about 10 minutes of being in the sun so we covered it in sunscreen pretty quickly! We toured around Kowloon getting off to explore the hustle and bustle of the markets and streets. We then caught the ferry across to Hong Kong island. Simon and I were feeling very tired at this point so we had some lunch and caffeine to wake us up! It was soooo hot and sooo steamy! We certainly got some colour though (hopefully not red)! After touring the island by bus we headed up ‘The Peak’ by tram. It was EXTREMLY steep and the track was on The face of the hill, so I tried my hardest not to image it de- railing! It was well worth it though as the view was the top was just breathtaking! It was also great to put places we’d been in perspective. After heading back to Kowloon, Simon got a fitting for his suit. Will be ready to pick up in one day.. Good service! We met up with Leigh and Lorraine on the harbour for a cocktail or two after work. It was gorgeous lighting as the sun set and the city lights of Hong Kong Island came to life. At 8pm the sound and light show started and all the huge island buildings lit up and the lights ‘danced’ along to a soundtrack with hundreds of people watching on the harbour. Dinner was a traditional Cantonese meal, lots of delicious dishes in a nice air-conditioned building (a necessity at this point). Headed home after dinner and being on the go for over 24 hours. Had no trouble sleeping, that’s for sure!
